What do I wear during my Cryotherapy session?
After a quick introduction from a certified Hydration Station team member, you will be directed to the changing room. Here you will be given a robe, slippers, socks, gloves, ear protection, and a mask.
If your clothing is wet/damp you will be given dry underwear to wear in the chamber during your session. For optimum treatment, men are required to wear dry cotton underwear during their session.
For women, we recommend comfortable shorts and a sports bra for maximum skin exposure. Ultimately, what you wear during your treatment is determined by your comfort level and desire for optimum treatment.
Both men and women will be required to remove all jewelry, piercings, and any clothing containing metal that may be in contact with the skin.
How does Cryotherapy work?
Common sense tells you that standing in -200° for two to three minutes would make you frozen solid. However, the cool temperature only affects your skin's surface, triggering your thermoreceptors to send electrical impulses to the brain making you ‘think’ you are freezing.
This sends your body into defensive mode by quickly transporting the body’s blood, nutrients, and resources to the organs in the core. During this process the body starts oxygenating your blood, flushing it of toxins and lactic acid.
Immediately after exiting the Cryo session your body starts returning to its normal state by increasing blood flow of your newly oxygenated blood back out to your limbs. Your body responds to the increased blood flow by dilating the blood vessels to distribute heat. The body starts absorbing the blood, which is now enriched with erythrocytes, oxygen, collagen, and other essential nutrients.
How many calories are burned during a Cryotherapy session?
After a single session of Cryotherapy, energy calories are used to reheat the body. It is hypothesized that during a 3-5 minute session, approximately 500-800 calories are burned.
Who can not receive a Cryotherapy treatment?
Kids under the age of 12 years old, anyone with heart problems, respiratory diseases, open wounds, bleeding disorders, severe anemia, acute kidney and urinary diseases, or if you are pregnant.
